✅ To protect their bodies in battle

But why?

Battles five hundred years ago used swords, lances, and arrows. Metal smiths shaped curved steel plates to cover the squishy human bits — curved so blows would slide off instead of crushing in. When guns arrived, even thick armor couldn’t stop bullets, so shiny suits slowly left the battlefield for museums.

🧒 For younger kids: Armor kept knights safe — swords bounced right off!

🤯 Wow fact: A full armor suit weighed 20–25 kg, but spread over the whole body — knights could run, mount horses, even cartwheel!

Good guesses kids make

“Because steel clothes were fashionable” — Armor WAS stylish — polished and engraved! — but the real point was staying alive.

“To make themselves look bigger” — Armor did look impressive and a bit scary — that was a bonus! But protection came first.

“To keep warm in winter” — Actually metal is freezing in winter and hot in the sun! Knights wore cloth padding underneath.
